Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is being ported to the iPhone and iPod Touch, Rockstar Games has confirmed. Assuming the App Store censors don’t have aneurysms at the sweary, drug-dealing murder simulator, obviously.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is one of our favourite Nintendo DS games, and (graphics aside) a pretty decent entry into the GTA series. The game has recently been confirmed for the PSP, but Rockstar just dropped a bombshell with the news that iPhone owners will be getting a piece of the action too.

“Chinatown Wars is a perfect match for the iPhone and iPod Touch,” Rockstar’s Sam Houser told Kotaku, “We are very excited to bring this incredibly ambitious version of Liberty City, with this level of detail and immersive gameplay on Apple’s new gaming platforms.”

A port of GTA: Chinatown Wars was recently announced for the PSP and the iPhone version should come with similarly enhanced graphics compared to the DS original, but retaining the fun touchscreen elements like the ‘rummage around dumpsters for hidden 9MM Pistols’ minigame and the realtime hotwiring required to jack certain cars.

Anyone who has been watching how the App Store approvals process has been handling ‘adult’ content lately might have pause to wonder if GTA: Chinatown Wars will pass unscathed, though. It would be a shame if Rockstar had to defang the game just to get it onto the Phone.
