The Sony S540 Walkman with speakers baked in for back of the bus anti-social antics has just rocked up at our door, so we’ve slipped it out of its box and in front of our camera for a good ol’ fashioned unboxathon. Want to see what the little PMP’s up to? Read on for the pics.
If you didn’t catch the official announcement, the Sony S540 Walkman range is the Japanese legend’s latest mid-range PMP, that’ll do you music, video and epic battery life without a high margin. For the most part, the specs on the Sony S540 Walkman are nothing new, even from Sony: 8 or 16GB of boot space (We’ve got the 8GB number), a 2.4inch QVGA screen and 42 hours of tune chuckback.
But the Sony S540 Walkman’s also got a pair of fine speakers stuffed in, and they’re pretty impressive. They’re thankfully not over-loud, so yobs go back to your phones, but they are crystal clear for something so darn dinky, and unlike so many other gizmos of the same stature, it doesn’t fart when the bass kicks in. We’re not sure how often you’d use them, but if you are the sort who likes to listen to relax in the sun, the Sony S540 Walkman is an ideal companion – it’s just a shame Summer’s nearly gone.
It’s not all sugar and spice though: for one, the strange Mickey Mouse button layout at the bottom of the Sony S540 Walkman series makes it incredibly difficult to navigate. In fact, it’s nigh on impossible to scroll left unless you happen to have a touchscreen stylus to hand, or a Liliputian’s severed digit.
We’re off to the park to test the Sony S540 Walkman’s speakers some more this fine Bank Holiday, but have a peep right here of what to expect when it launches next month.
Out September | £TBC | Sony
