Remember the Asus e-reader the company said it had locked up inside R&D a few months ago? The Taiwanesse titan is gearing up to release it, and as soon as this year. Will it be the Eee Book?
According to DigiTimes, Asus’s CEO Jerry Shen has outright confirmed its plans to release the Asus e-reader, and under the Eee brand, as soon as the end of 2009.
The e-reader market is beginning to heat up rapidly, with several new UK-bound virtual paperbacks, a refreshed Sony line up and rumours of a British Amazon Kindle, so Asus will have to work hard to make its e-reader stand out.
We reckon it might stand a chance if it opts for the dual panel concept we saw back at CeBIT packing an eBook mode. We’ll let you know as soon as we get more details, but in the meantime, an Asus e-reader’s going on our list for Santa.
