Tough gadgets are all the rage at the moment. But while the Land Rover S1 and Nokia 3720 flex their guns at the double hard mobile party, trying to out do each other, the Olympus Mju Tough-6010 is all out their on its own in the tough camera arena. But just how solid is it? Read our Olympus Mju Tough-6010 review and find out.
Pick up the Olympus Mju Tough-6010 and you’ll realise that being harder than a Jordan–loving cage fighter doesn’t do much for your looks. In fact, this tough–nut camera looks about as hot as Ricky Hatton after he’s taken a Las Vegas–based pounding. But that doesn’t mean it’s not a killer gadget.
In fact, the Olympus Mju Tough-6010 is one of the strongest cameras we’ve ever laid hands on. It easily took a pounding from rain, wind and extreme drops when we took it out for a spin. And it takes decent snaps too. That 12MP sensor is right out of the top drawer, giving colourful pics. On top of that you’ll find a 28mm wide angle lens, with a decent 102mm telephoto option which lets you make like a pap without the clunking kit.
There are some rather nasty niggles though. Pics, even in regular situations, are noisier than a Ibiza end–of–summer party, and at night they make your basic camera phone look like it’s got skills. On top of that the Olympus Mju Tough-6010 uses xD memory cards and a proprietary cable, which is inexcusable in today’s gadget obsessed society.
If you’re an adrenalin junkie and want the pics to show off your extreme outdoor action, the Olympus Mju Tough-6010 is for you. However, the average pictures mean this is one for specialists only.
