We just got to grips with the Nikon Coolpix S1000PJ compact snapper with a projector stashed in the front, so you can show off your videos on any walls you have to hand. Is it essential shutterbug wear or a gimmick that makes the Cheeky Girls look like legitimate singer-songwriters? Read on and see for yourself.
Compact cameras just aren’t good enough these days without an absurd USP sewn in, be it touchscreen controls, dual LCD panels or 3D imaging. Case in point, the Nikon Coolpix S1000pj, the first pocket picture box with a projector inside. The 12.1 megapixel sensor and 5x optical zoom will do you fine for group shots, but it’s the up to 40-inch images it beams out that have us wowed.
When you power the Nikon Coolpix S1000pj on, it works like any other compact – just point and shoot. But there’s also a button on the left hand side to fire up the projector on the front of the Nikon Coolpix S1000pj. Give it a prod, and it’ll start beaming your snaps onto the wall, and even play back your video, and Nikon says it’s good for an hour of darkened room love. We’re still a little uncertain how useful it really is when you can plug the Nikon Coolpix S1000pj straight into a TV instead, but if you’re the sort who hangs around in back alleys rather than living rooms, it could well be up your street.
The Nikon Coolpix S1000pj is out on 17 September – stay tuned for a full review, and in the meantime, help your eyes to our hoard of hands-on photos.
