Asus Lamborghini VX5

Asus’ rep as purveyor of cheapo netbooks to students and mobile workaholics has clouded thoughts of its truly top notch laptops. Make no mistake, the Asus Lamborghini VX5 is one. With the guts to match its motoring mate, this is one serious piece of kit. Read our full Asus Lamborghini VX5 review to see if it can really outcool the Diablo et al.
Press the ignition on the Asus Lamborghini VX5 and you’ll immediately realise how slick and speedy this thing really is. With an epic 4GB of RAM, Intel Quad–Core processor, GeForce GT 130M graphics and a frankly insane 1TB of storage, this is very much the equivalent of its motoring namesake. Brash, cool and not afraid to be over the top.

It all means that the Asus Lamborghini VX5 is one speedy piece of kit. Chuck in a game and that 16–inch screen will render it stunning. Throw in a movie and you’ll find that Blu–Ray drive is stroking your eyeballs in a matter of minutes, thanks to the HDMI out that lets it play nice with your TV.

There are some niggles, however, that make this feel more Fiat 500 than Lamborghini Reventon. The casing on this weighty machine looks more akin to a dirt–cheap lappie you’d nab at Aldi than one you’d pony up the best part of £2.000 for. Chuck in a somewhat awkward keyboard and you’re looking at a machine that is very much one for posers only.

The Asus Lamborghini VX5 is undoubtedly a clever piece of kit. But you can’t help feeling you’re fronting up for the name rather than the specs. In the words of Partridge, “They’ve rebadged it you fool.”
