Nokia Money: pay by text

Categories: Apps & Software News   Tags: ,

Nokia MoneyNokia World is just days away now, but Nokia’s got another tasty little titbit to tide you over until then: Nokia Money. It’s a brand new service that will let you pay by sending text messages. Want to know when your mobile kills off the wallet once and for all? Read on.

When it rolls out, Nokia Money will not only let you send money securely to friends over SMS, but pay partnering shops, utility bills and even your phone network for air time. It sounds great, and you won’t even need to change your handset, unlike some of Nokia’s other payment plans. It’s not ideal for swiping through at the train station, but it does mean you’ll be able to buy a ticket if you’re caught short of cash.

Will Nokia Money to came to the UK though? The service is headed to “selected markets” next year, and while the UK normally makes that elite group for fancy phone gear, Nokia Money is also about making payments easier for people in countries where bank accounts and ATMs aren’t the norm.

You can expect more on Nokia Money at Nokia World in Stuttgart next month, so stay tuned: we can’t wait to jump the queue at Tesco with a text.
