Nokia World 2009 kicks off in Stuttgart on 2 September. And we’re expecting a slew of awesome new cellular goodies to sate the appetites of mobile junkies everywhere. There have been leaks galore, but here’s our definitive lowdown of what to expect when things hot up in two weeks time.
Nokia N97 Mini
An absolute shoe–in. The Nokia N97 Mini has been doing the rounds online for weeks. The pared down version of Nok’s top notch N97 will rock a smaller 2.9–inch screen, a skimpier 8GB of storage and a bargain basement price. Word is Nok wants to strike first before another big player release a “mini” version of its top–end mobile. Wonder who that could be?
N900 Maemo tablet
Possibly the hottest story at Nokia World. The N900 tablet will come with an embarrassment of techie riches on board: think 1GB runtime memory, GPS, WiFi, 5MP snapper and 32GB storage. Chuck in Maemo 5 and you’re looking at the newest flagship phone from Nokia. This really could be the iPhone–basher we’ve waited for. Which leads us to…
Symbian S60 overhaul
Nokia has had to flat out deny that Maemo would be sending Symbian S60 to an early grave. But that doesn’t mean the OS isn’t desperately in need of an overhaul. Expect to see plans for a sleek new interface to go toe–to–toe with Apple and HTC Sense unveiled in Stuttgart. And maybe even a phone packing it too.
5900 XpressMusic
Another one from the “leaked phones locker” the 5900 XpressMusic is as much of a guarantee is Peter Andre selling another “exclusive” to the Sunday papers. The beefed up touchscreen will have the same RAM as the N97, a 5MP camera and a 3.5–inch touchscreen. Expect a Comes With Music version too.
Comes With Music going DRM free
Nokia Comes With Music has been a bit of a damp squib, thanks to the advent of Spotify and its DRM–packing style. The latter, though, could be about to change, with plenty of gossip about Nokia dispensing with rights management and letting punters play nice with its tunes on any device.
We’ll be coming live from Nokia World in Stuttgart, so stay tuned for all the news as it happens.
