The ever-elusive Nokia netbook just took a giant step towards reality: Nokia’s CEO just went on record to say that the the Finnish phone maker is actively looking into the lil’ laptop market. And yes, he used the N word.
All the Nokia netbook rumours got a big boost of legitimacy when Nokia announced it was shacking up with Intel. The chip-maker’s current processors are too power-hungry for phones, suggesting a Nokia netbook or mobile internet device was on the way.
Now, Nokia’s CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo has said that’s precisely what the phone peddler is eyeing up. Speaking to press in India this week, he said: “We are looking at the netbook market to see what kind of opportunity is there.”
But Nokia may have an arms race on its hands; Sony Ericsson has been sniffing the netbook market and is rumoured to be planning its own smart-book. Meanwhile, Acer and Dell have been making headway with smartphones. These phone-friendly netbooks aren’t even out yet, but it already looks like competition will be fierce.
