We’ve just got to grips with the Samsung ST550, a new compact camera with an LCD screen on the back and the front. Is it a gimmick or the next step forward for point and shoots? See for yourself in our gallery.
Like Canon, Samsung’s been pushing the boat out when it comes to compact design of late. Case in point is the 12.2 megapixel Samsung, a snapper with twin LCD screens. The logic is that the front one will help you line up self-portraits better, like a front facing camera on a mobile. Only, you know, with a decent camera.
We had a quick play around with it, and it certainly makes group shots with you in them easier, but whether that’s enough of a selling point for the what depends on just how many photos of you and your mates in a nightclub with your arms round each other you like to upload to Facebook.
What we do like though is that it’s rocking a 3.5-inch =LCD on the back, touchscreen just like the new Canon IXUS 200 IS, although this time all the controls are touch, not half and half.
Grip wise, it feels fine to hold, and is as responsive and as fast as it should be, though we’ll save the verdict on the Samsung ST550 for our full review. In the meantime, get a look at it in action right here!
