lbp-pspjpgWhen LittleBigPlanet makes it highly-anticipated debut on PSP, you’ll be able to play, create and share, just like on the PS3 version. But you’ll be doing it solo. Transferring from the powerful home console to a handheld was also going to mean compromises and senior producer Mark Green has revealed that the game’s multiplayer mode has got the sack(boy). Read on for the rest of the deets.

“It’s a trade-off,” Green told Eurogamer. “On the technical side of things you lose a third of the processing power or a third of the system memory just to do multiplayer at all. With those limitations we couldn’t achieve it.”

Although you won’t be cavorting through your home made levels with a buddy in tow, those levels will be packed to nines with a full physics system, and you’ll have nearly the same powers of creation as on the PS3 version. You can then upload those levels for other players to enjoy, or download new ones using the PSP’s built-in WiFi connection.

Clearly, if multiplayer was going to nix the creation side of things, then it had to go. But playing together is one of the most fun things about LittleBigPlanet on PS3. Specifically the tricky coop sections, along with dressing up in ridiculous outfits and gurning at your fellow sackboys and girls.

Pretending to be a bright pink Cyclops will be a lot less fun when there’s no one there to slap.

One other compromise that the PSP version will have to live with is that there will only be two planes to move between, rather than the PS3’s three. Hopefully that’ll make navigation a lot easier, but we don’t yet know how seriously it will affect the creation side.
