beatlesBeatles, iTunes… iTunes, Beatles. Now there’s a rumour that’s been doing the rounds so long it makes the PS3 Slim look like a flash in the pan. But could the Fab Four’s digital debut actually be right around the corner? Read on to find out!

The basis of this latest rumour might seem familiar. By a very deliberate coincidence of dates, a remastered collection of 14 Beatles albums is landing on September 9th (on CD, presumably, if any still remembers those). That’s the same day as The Beatles: Rock Band gets its grand debut.

That in itself would seem like as good a reason as any for taking The Beatles into the digital era, but now there’s another factor to consider: Apple is expected to be making a big announcement right around that time. Some are even saying September 9th, as it happens.

Now, bear in mind that the Apple announcement date is actually a rumour itself, coming from ‘sources’ who are ‘close to the company’. But what with the upcoming iTunes interactive albums, the rumoured Apple social networking app and the ever-elusive iTablet, a public address is sorely needed.

This year’s ‘One more thing’ may well turn out to be four more things: John, Paul, George and Ringo.
