The touchscreen IXUS 200 a bit too piddly for you? If you want a powerful point and shoot, the new Canon Powershot G11 is much more up your cul-de-sac, and we’ve got to grips with one already. Get all the specs and pic in our hands-on gallery right here!
Like Panasonic and Olympus have been blurring the boundaries with Micro Four Third snappers, the Canon Powershot G11 is another bridge camera that brings it to SLRs.
Sure, at 10 megapixels, you’re dropping a few megapixels with the Canon Powershot G11 compared to the new IXUS, but that’s not really what it’s about now, is it? The beefy G11 instead offers spectacular imagery via a 5x optical zoom, RAW support and a 2.8-inch rotating LCD screen to help you see what you’re taking at the best angle.
As well as a bundle of manual settings and optical image stabilisation, there’s ISO 12800 in low light setting, so you can get great snaps even in English grey weather.
At 1/2000th of a second, the flash is seriously fast, and there’s a Quick Shot mode to go with it should you happen to see Usain Bolt out on a record breaking jog.
All that kit comes at a cost of course: the Canon Powershot G11 will set you back a mighty £569 when it arrives later this year. And we’re very, very fond of our E-P1. Still, we’re happy to have something better so we’ve got our fingers, toes and limbs crossed.
Out October | £569.00 | Canon
