PlayStation NetworkSony is preparing to take the PlayStation Network offline today, in a move not dissimilar to Apple taking its online store down ahead of new shiny stash to drum up the hype. Now, why might it be doing that? It couldn’t be anything to do with Sony’s Gamescom press conference happening today, could it?

Whether by sheer coincidence or intention, the PlayStation Network is going offline from 5pm-7pm UK time today, the precise window in which Sony is expected to unveiled its PS3 plans – whatever they are – in Cologne, Germany.

You don’t have to be a silver foil hatted conspiracy theorist to see what’s happening here. Sony taking the PlayStation Network offline suggests we’re about to see more features for it too tonight, not just hardware revelations.

Incidentally, if you do try and hop on to the PlayStation network during Sony’s conference, don’t worry – error messages don’t mean your account has been suspended. Keep it locked here though instead to see if the Sony PS3 Slim is for real.

Not rocket science. Sony have already said the movie store is heading to Europe. I would expect this to be a “Movie store is now live in Europe” announcement at GamesCon.
