forum-buzz1TomTom for iPhone has finally hit the App Store at a wallet friendly £59.99 if you just want UK mapping – around £60 less than the cheapest standalone TomTom. Is it worth the money or would you rather stick to a dedicated unit? The Electricpig forum wants to know.

That price tag doesn’t get you any in car toys, like a charger or screen mount, so you’ll either need to balance your blower on the dash or wait until the optional cradle, charger and GPS enhancer is announced.

Unless TomTom prices the extra caboodle at a rock bottom price, it’s going to slim down that gap between the iPhone version and the standalone product.

Or would you prefer, as suggested by our own Ben Sillis, a pay per use version instead? No upfront fee, just a little here and there when it’s needed?

Head on into the forum and let us know what you think.

Well, between the £26 CoPilot (which is pretty good, actually) and the £60 TomTom, it’s a pretty tricky choice. In SatNav terms, £26 is pocket change, but sixty quid is a bit pricey, in my opinion.

Also, I’m not sure if I agree with Ben’s point – sure you change your phone every 18 months, but your software is tied to your iTunes account, so if you get another iPhone, you can just put the satnav software on that one, instead of having to re-buy your satnav software.

Of course, it means that you’re seriously tied in to iPhones for the foreseeable future, but for those of us who are self-proclaimed Apple fanboys, I think that’s not that much of an issue.
