Android MIDThe case for Android on netbooks is still yet to be proved, but Google’s open source OS is looking increasingly tasty on iPod touch rivals and tablets. Don’t believe us? Have a gawp at this mystery Android slate, which looks like it could give the rumoured Apple tablet a dash for its cash.

An anonymous tipster has been inundating Pocketables with snaps of an unknown Android MID. The first batch arrived last week, showing a little tablet browsing the web no problemo, but the latest bunch give us a bit more perspective on the device.

For one, while the Android MID bears an uncanny resemblance to the iPhone, it’s a lot bigger at around 4.5 inches wide, just as slim (check it out resting on a Sony VAIO P keyboard), and packs an SD card slot too so you won’t run out of storage space. The tipster reportedly hinted at Wi-Fi and even 3G connectivity, but as to a name, price or release date, he’s keeping schtum.

We’re hopeful that the Android Deepthroat will continue leaking photos, as this could prove to be a serious rival not just to the Creative Zii Egg PMP, but the Apple tablet too should Cupertino ever decide to admit it’s real.
