The Palm Pre is still months off its December UK release. But the iPhone–basher has hit the headlines across the pond for all the wrong reasons. See, one wily user has uncovered the Pre’s snooping skills, with the blower sending private info back to Palm HQ. Keep reading to see what Palm has to say for itself.
The Palm Pre has only been strutting its stuff Stateside for a couple of months. But that was enough time for Palm user and software dev’ Joey Hess to discover that his Pre was sending a raft of personal information to Palm.
This included data about his location, what apps had crashed on the mobile and even what third party extras had been shovelled on. A report was being sent back daily until Hess found a way of subverting the Palm Pre’s software.

Palm has said it’s privacy policy is, “…like many policies in the industry and includes very detailed language about potential scenarios in which we might use a customer’s information, all toward a goal of offering a great user experience.”
It went on to say it had no intention of “violating users trust.” However, with no apology forthcoming, Palm has been slated by users for its stance. Let’s just see how this one plays out when the Pre lands on O2 later this year.
