ps3Sony is clearing PS3 stock in preparation for a “September promotion”, according to games industry bible MCV – and that means the console could finally be getting a price cut.

According to MCV’s sources, retailers have found it increasingly difficult to get hold of PS3 hardware stock over the “last two or three weeks”. Other retailers told the magazine that they had been told not to expect further supplies until late August or early September.

That points to some kind of relaunch for the PS3 – either with a lower price or perhaps in its long-rumoured PS3 Slim form factor.

Sony is holding a press conference next Tuesday 18th August at the Gamescom expo, so any announcement will be made then. Stay tuned.
