dellsmartphoneDell’s first foray into the mobile phone market is rumoured to be days away from an official announcement, but while we wait for the nod there’s more speculation to mull over – not to mention some photos. Read on for more.

Boy Genius Report has unearthed some extremely low-res shots of what could well be the Dell phone. Looking like an iPhone designed by, well, somebody at Dell, it’s a rather run-of-the-mill touchscreen handset with the now-standard icon-filled home screen. There’s a camera on the back but aside from that, we can’t make out anything that indicates any special features or functions.

But that doesn’t matter, because Boy Genius Report has had some specs handed to it too. If these are accurate, the Dell phone has a 3.5-inch 640 x 360 screen, 3MP camera with auto focus and 30fps video mode, A-GPS, microSD slot and Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR. There’s an on-screen QWERTY keyboard, plus handwriting recognition and some multi-touch capabilities.

If you’re wondering why there’s no Wi-Fi it’s apparently because the Dell phone is destined for the Chinese market, where the feature is prohibited.

There’s no word on the operating system, which we have heard could either by a new Dell-specific setup or Android. Looks like we’ll have to wait a bit longer to find out.
