Sony will unleash its plans for the PS3 Video Store on this side of the pond next week. That’s according to a top Sony exec, who says all the info will be officially unveiled at the Big S’s press conference at Gamescom on 18 August. Read on and we’ll dose you up with the details.
Sony’s PS3 Video Store is already doing brisk business over in the US. But PS3 owners here in the UK and the rest of Europe have had to watch on while American fans gorge themselves on glorious vids.
But the wait is nearly over. European PlayStation Store manager Angela Madronero has said a full statement will be made next week, letting us know exactly how much we’ll need to fork out and just what Sony’s plans are to kick Microsoft’s back side when it comes to VOD.
PS3 Slim: cheap and yours next month
The announcement will be part of Sony’s pre–Gamescom press conference on 18 August. Hopefully the PS3 Video Store will be a starter before the main course: the much–rumoured PS3 Slim.

Sony is already kicking Microsoft’s ass (despire Microsoft’s 16 month headstart). The Euro PS3 install base is higher, and game publishers (EA, Ubisoft and Capcom) all make more money from PS3 sales.
The quality of content on PSN Store is far better than XBLA (which has more content, but most of it’s rubbish). The quality of PS3 exclusives far outweights the 360 exclusives, Multiplats are the same these days, the PS3 has far better hardware capabilities and a more reliable design.
Lastly PS3 gamers have more money to spend on games, as they don’t waste their cash on XboxLive fees and Propitiatory hard drives…
I think it’s great…Microsoft is kick’n tush…
As you say – it’s all down to content. And speed, of course. I somtimes fail to get onto the PSN store because of my tiscali broadband! It’s a decent 8MB, but often just times out!
