n97-1Now here’s a tie–up we thought we’d never see. Word on the web is Microsoft Office is about to makes its way onto Nokia phones, with both major players plotting a press conference at 4pm today, London time. Want to know what’s going down? Read on.

Microsoft Office is already engaged in a tug of war with Google Docs for your cloud–based affections. And the battle looks like it’s about to move to a new front, with Redmond priming Office for an appearance on Nokia phones.

The deal would see Nokia’s high–end smarties offer the likes of Word, Excel and Powerpoint. In a move that’ll doubtless bring into question why anyone would want a Windows Mobile phone, Nokia and Microsoft are both clearly hoping this will help bring the pain to both Apple and Google in the battle for smartphone supremacy.

All the official details will be outed during a conference call at 4pm, so stay tuned for all the news as it happens.
