powermatWireless charging has been hyped for ages. But now a decent way to juice your gadgets sans cables is on its way. The new Powermat is due to land in October, charging up everything from MP3 players to mobiles. All you need to do is slap them down and they’ll boost up. Keep reading to find out how much this wireless magic will cost.

The Powermat is designed to take care of all your gadgets. It uses wireless energy transfer in order to fire up your favourite tech, including BlackBerrys, iPhones and even your Nintendo DS.

You can charge up to four gadgets at any one time, meaning you don’t need to hook all your toys up to do different power points. The idea is to declutter your home, but the Powermat looks a bit like a skateboard if you ask us, so it’s more of a cool accessory if you ask us.

There’s a special travel version which you can fold up and stash, with home and office versions starting at £69.99. Well worth a go if you love your tech on the bleeding edge.

This sort of technology has been around for a while, (a la the electric toothbrush) I would think each device would need to be modified in some way to charge via the mat, previous incarnations (splashpower?) have required a sort of pad to be stuck to the back of the phone which is directly linked to your battery. Still, it’s a nice idea. It would be better if the mat was built into desks and tables!
