Dropped your iPhone on that lovely concrete floor? Or just given it a splash with some tasty lager? Well a new “abuse detector” could soon be shopping you into Apple if a new patent application comes to light. Want to know what else you’ll have to do to destroy your precious iPhone warranty? Then read on.
Apple’s latest iPhone patent application shows off plans to build a “consumer abuse detection system.” The idea is simple. Do something to bust your beautiful blower and it’ll save information digitally. So when you rush to that Genius bar, desperate for a fix, that smug Apple employee can see what you’ve done and force to fork out for repairs.
Unlike the liquid submersion indicator in a MacBook Pro, which changes colour when it gets splashed, this would be an interface accessible by a “diagnostic device.” It could pick up anything from a drop, water damage or even extreme heat after leaving it in your motor.
On top of that, the iPhone abuse detector could potentially be used to disable your cell remotely, preventing long–term damage. Still, it seems a pretty hardcore way to ensure you’re not telling porkies.
