It’s already on sale in Taiwan, and now the ever-elusive Garmin–Asus nüvifone G60 is apparently now dated for the US too – albeit rather vaguely.
The satnav-centric touchscreen mobile was first glimpsed way back in January 2008, but so far has failed to materialise on the market in any real way. But now it seems a US launch this side of 2010 is on the cards, with Garmin execs claiming the device is in final testing stages with “an undisclosed amount of US carriers”. If these proceed hitch-free, the Garmin–Asus nüvifone G60 should get a Q4 (i.e. October, November or December) 2009 release Stateside.
There’s every chance that UK carriers are also testing the phone for launch on this side of the Atlantic, but as Engadget points out – the Garmin–Asus nüvifone G60’s specifications haven’t changed since it was first announced back in early 2008. Since then we’ve seen two new iPhones launched, plus the rise of Android. It’s safe to say the buzz surrounding Garmin’s first foray into the mobile market has been reduced to a barely audible murmur.
