tony-hawk-rideActivision has announced the release date for revolutionary skateboarding sim Tony Hawk RIDE – and slapped a whopping £100 price tag on it.

The game, the first skating title to feature an actual skateboard peripheral, will arrive on PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii on 20th November. And the UK is only one of three countries to get it this year – everyone outside of the US, Germany and UK will have to wait until 2010 for their fix.

There will be two versions of Tony Hawk RIDE available: regular, and a limited edition featuring a black and red board bearing the logo of the legendary Birdman himself (that’s Tony Hawk btw). This will only be available at Game stores.

The £100 price is sure to raise a few eyebrows, but Activision doesn’t seem too concerned about courting controversy: its recent decision to set the RRP of Modern Warefare 2 at a wallet-bothering £55 has had thrifty gamers up in arms – and yet Kotaku reports that it’s already set a record for the most pre-orders of any game in Activision’s history. Phew.

Let’s not forget that Modern Warfare 2, due to its popularity, will sell for less than the RRP. The same can be said for this ridiculous board thingy. Gamers aren’t all that ‘thrifty’ I’ve not met many gamers, myself included that spent their money wisely when a new game or console is released, we still buy new games and consoles in droves and the industry remains as profitable as ever – even in a recession!
