copilot-live-iphone-aa1

It’s here, iPhone owners: the first satnav app for Apple’s mobile. CoPilot Live just hit the App Store, bringing full turn-by-turn navigation, gorgeous 3D views and spoken directions. Read on for all the juicy details.

We’ve been twitching in anticipation of full iPhone satnav for weeks. Ever since it was first shown off by CoPilot. Now, the race is won: CoPilot’s the first out of the gate with a satnav app for iPhone, ready to replace your dedicated GPS box and take charge of your motoring.

All the features you’d expect are present and correct: 3D views, search by address and intelligent navigation to get you in the right lane at road junctions.

Extra touches include an automatic night mode, flicking the iPhone’s screen into high contrast when the light gets dim outside, on-screen road signs that exactly match their real-life counterparts and LiveLink location sharing, so you can track your buddies’ position on screen too.

It’s a staggering achievement, and cheaper than we’d expected at a penny under £26. CoPilot is also promising a free update soon to add safety camera alerts, a smarter walking mode and clever call handling to let the app remember your destination after a call.

The CoPilot Live iPhone app is on sale now, but memory-stuffers beware, the whole shebang will gobble up 215MB of your iPhone’s storage. Maybe time to delete that Paolo Nutini collection.

Out now | £26 | Available now through iTunes

Correction: Its not the first satnav for iPhone. Its the second, following the release of the Navigon iPhone satnav back in june this year.

  • larl

But it may be the first satnav app for iPhones in USA, since Navigon only released a european version back in june.

  • Nope
  • Andy

    CORRECT CORRECTION.

How is it the second when Sygic Maps was also launched in June 25th.

Navigon Launched UK, EUR, North America and Australia.
The USA also have Sygic available and AT&T.

If your going to correct report please get it right!!

    Second to the Navigon satnav.
No wait third to the Navigon and Sygic satnavs.
Oh hang on there’s also the iGo My Way Satnav.

So basically it’s beaten TomTom to market.

Unlike all the others, this one is at a good price point.

    The Navigon satnav: http://blogs.zdnet.com/cell-phones/?p=1664

I’ve been using the Navigon satnav on my iPhone since the release back in june. Its a turn-by-turn navigation, including maps for 40 european countries.

But I can see that Electricpig did miss the news about Navigon for iPhone.

  • Alex

There is also sygic, Navigon and recently iGo My Way … about the only one missing is Tom Tom, but at the rumoured £113 I’m not too bothered about waiting for that.

  • Zeb Sogo

You are also forgetting Sygic and iGo myway So Copilot is certainly not the first Turn-by-turn satnav app for iphone. Although i have them all on my iphone now and have to say Copilot blows them all out the water .. the best by far, TomTom will have to release a cracking product to compete with Copilot live 8 for iPhone.

Tell you what, this is one sexy bit of kit. Now I just want to see what TomTom come up with… And whether anyone is making a motorcycle mounting bracket for my iPhone. Water-proof would be useful, too, what with this being Britain and all.

I don’t suppose you need anyone to review this, do you, Electric Pig? I might know of a willing volunteer :D
