The retro-inspired Olympus E-P1 struck quite a chord with us here at Electricpig, garnering a five-star review for its classy looks, solid aluminium build and interchangeable Micro Four Thirds lenses. And now it seems there could be an even better follow-up in the works.
According to Photo Rumors, an “Olympus spokesman” has let slip that the Olympus E-P2 is on the way. Details are sparse, but apparently the camera will launch before the end of 2009 and feature a viewfinder. Which is nice – the lack of a viewfinder and a built-in flash were our review’s only real issues with the E-P1.
Over at the Club Snap forums, someone’s even posted pictures of what they state could be the E-P2 in the flesh.
Of course, as with all rumours we’ll take this one with a pinch of salt. It’s also worth noting that any viewfinder would be an electronic version rather than an actual through-the-lens optical viewfinder like those found on DSLRs. Unlike DSLRs, Micro Four Thirds cameras don’t use a mirror.
