Sharp has announced two new LCD HDTV ranges, both packing LED backlighting tech to produce what the company describes as “unprecedented image quality and energy-efficient, eco-friendly performance.”
The Sharp Aquos LE600 series comes in 32, 40 and 46-inch models, while the slightly pricier LE700 series offers the same, plus a range-topping 52-inch model. All models have hundreds of LEDs positioned directly behind the screen (not edge-mounted as we’ve seen recently with the Sony Bravia ZX1) to serve up a brighter picture with cleaner colours.
There’s no mention of the local dimming LED tech that made Philips’ LED Lux TV such a standout product, but even so Sharp’s models should offer a significant improvement over regular lamp-lit LCD tellies. They also use 40 percent less power than a traditional LCD.
All models have full HD 1080p X-Gen LCD panels, and the LE700 series also features 100Hz technology to improve the quality of moving pictures. All models have four HDMI inputs and a USB photo/music player.
