We’re still waiting on a UK version of the Amazon Kindle, but Sony clearly isn’t messing about with its own eBook devices: every day we seemingly get a new nugget of info about the soon-to-be-launched PRS-300 and PRS-600 Sony Readers – yesterday we got wind of the price tags, and today we’ve got the specifications.
The $200 (£120) PRS-300 will boast a 5-inch screen with a resolution of 800 x 600 and an 8-level grey scale. The battery life should support 7,500 BBeB Book page turns, and the following media formats are supported: BBeB Book; EPUB; PDF; TXT; RTF; Microsoft Word. It weighs 220g and measures up at 157 x 107 x 5mm.
The PRS-600 sports a 6-inch display with the same resolution and grey scale (but with on-screen touch controls rather than the PRS-300′s buttons), and its battery lasts for around the same number of page turns. As well as the previously mentioned media formats, it also supports JPEG, PNG, GIF and BMP image files. Weight is 286g and measurements are 175 x 121 x 10mm.
