new-sony-readersGet this eBook fans. There won’t be just one new Sony Reader. Nope, there’ll be two, The Sony PRS–300 and PRS–600 have both just wormed their way onto the web, along with an official pic and a string of specs to excite futuristic bookworms. Read on and find out when you’ll be getting your new Sony Reader dose.

Plans for a new Sony Reader are out. The tech giant, though, is plotting two new eBooks, with one looking distinctly like a competitor for both the Cool–er eBook and Elonex eBook.

The basic PRS–300 will come in black, red and silver, packing a 5–inch screen, an inch smaller than the current PRS–505 doing the rounds. There’ll be 440MB of on board storage, compared to the Cool–er’s 1GB. And that won’t be expandable by SD. This particular new Sony Reader had better not give our wallets nighttmares then.

The beefier PRS–600 rocks the same colour scheme, but packs a bigger 6–inch screen and SD support to bolster the 440MB storage inside. For now, there’s no word on Wi–Fi support, but as this is the top drawer device, expect that to come later. It’s got the Amazon Kindle to challenge after all.

Manuals for both new Sony Readers were spied by the chaps at Sony Insider, apparently only written this month. That should mean we’ll be getting to grips with both the PRS–300 and PRS–600 soon. And with IFA in Berlin kicking off in September, the timing’s perfect.
