JamLegendIf you find you fast run out of tracks to play on Guitar Hero or Rock Band, one upstart rival should keep your fingers occupied: online game JamLegend offers the same music rhythm mayhem, and now it even lets you add any song you like.

JamLegend is a great Guitar Hero style game that lets you play online, with your keyboard and against others, but until now its one downer has been the lack of recognisable, strum along tracks. It’s just fixed that though, adding the option to upload your own MP3s.

Guitar Hero 5 drumkit revealed

The JamLegend uploads take a few minutes and automatically scans for the beat to generate colour co-ordinated rhythms for you to pluck out. None of this waiting around for years for individual bands to agree to appear, although none of the psychedelia either.

You’ll have to pay to add and play more than 5 of your own songs, but it’s free to try out, and a great idea: Guitar Hero and Rock Band in particular have been reaping a fortune off downloadable tracks and expansion packs. Now that JamLegend’s removed the need for them, could we see Activision and Harmonix try something similar? Don’t hold your breath.
