Just two days ago, plans for an Acer Android netbook appeared to be dead in the water, a victim of scurrilous insider chat in Taiwan and the world’s love affair with Google Chrome OS. However, word coming directly from Acer has its Android netbook on track and ready for an Autumn launch. Read on for all the details.
With Chrome OS causing such a stir, it was no surprise to hear rumours of the quick demise of the Acer Android netbook. However an Acer spokesman has come out and confirmed that the 10–inch netbook, first seen at Computex in June, will indeed be hitting shelves in ‘Q3′. That’s Autumn to us non–financial types.
Acer’s Android netbook will not rock Windows XP as well, instead offering a low power alternative to Microsoft models. Think Linux but with a mobile OS that’s become increasingly natty thanks to the likes of the HTC Hero and Sony Ericsson Xperia X3.
Specs–wise, expect the standard rollcall of a 10–inch screen, Intel Atom processor and Wi–Fi. How it’ll stack up against Google Chrome OS machines though, is something we’re very keen to discover.
