The new Sonos controller has just come over all official. Dubbed the Sonos CR200, it’s the wireless music–mad types first foray into touchscreens, and replaces the click wheel–toting CR100 remote that had a rep’ as being a bit of a gadget fatty. Read on and clamp your eyes on all the official shots of the new Sonos controller now.
Ok, it may have got the web leaking treatment. But the new Sonos controller, CR200, is one tasty bit of kit. And it’s the first time we’ve got pumped about a remote control, well, ever.
There’s a 3.5–inch, 640×480 touchscreen, twice the resolution of the iPhone 3GS, with dedicated mute, volume and zone control buttons slapped down the bottom. Plus a removable battery just in case your run out of juice permanently. The interface will ring a bell with those who control their multiroom music mayhem via the Sonos iPhone app.
New Sonos controller priced up
It all means you can control music in different rooms via the new Sonos controller’s slick UI. The touchscreen is capacitive, so you won’t find yourself stabbing at it to whip it into action. And there’s access to Napster and Last.fm, thanks to deals Sonos tied up last year. Last.fm access now offers artist info, including tour dates, related music and even a band’s influences.
The CR200 also comes with a neat cradle so you can keep it safe and upstanding and is due to land now for a whacking £279. Alternatively you can nab it as part of the new Sonos BU250 bundle, which includes the CR200, plus its ZP120 and ZP90 zone players. That comes in at a mighty £799 though.
Stay tuned for hands–on pics of the new Sonos controller later today.
