Sony’s kept the elusive PS3 Slim under much tighter wraps than the PSPgo, but the rumours just keep on whirling, and now they’re picking up speed: orders for key Sony PS3 parts have just doubled out in Taiwan. Is Sony stockpiling for a brand new launch?
The folks over at DigiTimes have their ears to the ground out East, and have caught word of orders for major Sony PS3 parts ramping up recently, potentially reaching one million consoles this quarter, double the number made in the last 3 months.
Now, a sudden step up in PS3 production could simply be to cope with the inevitable Christmas rush, but given all the other PS3 Slim rumours and sightings of late, Sony could be preparing the tiny box of vapourware for launch, or at least anticipating a sales shortage a PS3 price cut could trigger.
We’re hoping Sony’s gearing up for a PS3 Slim, but we’ll let you know if these Taiwanese whispers turn out to be just that.

The whole blogging media is setting themselves up nicely to look VERY foolish over the PS3 slim.
I can’t wait for them all to start back peddling. I know 100% that it’s fake, I have been to several of the factories that produce PS3 in Taiwan and know that’s it’s regular PS3 production ramping, and the slim is nothing more than a cheap stunt to try and stem PS3 “fat” sales.
Now I wonder who would benefit from that???? It does not take a genius to work out what department in Redmond the PS3 slim rumours originated from, and what the motive is. I just feel sorry for the people that miss out on PS3 goodness, waiting for something that’s not gonna appear for at least another 12 months. You can also expect the same gutter press and MS Viral marketing to spin it so that it looks bad on Sony for not launching a Slim just because the media got it so badly wrong…
@St0rmBr1nger If you have been to the factories in Taiwan we’d love to talk to you – drop us an email!
