Sony VAIOA Sony VAIO machine with touchscreen built in is on the cards, and right from the launch of Windows 7, just 3 months away. How do we know? Because it’s come down from on high from the big man in charge. Read on to see what’s cooking over at Sony computing.

Laptop Mag nabbed some face time with Sony’s senior vice president for its Information Technology Products Division, Mike Abary, who let slip that a touchscreen Sony VAIO machine of some form is just a few moon’s rotations away.

“We think touch on Windows 7 is something we find compelling and we will certainly introduce touch into some of our products at the launch of Win 7. You will see touch capabilities introduced on VAIO products that take advantage of Windows 7,” he said.

Sony VAIO W: hands-on video

What form a touchscreen Sony VAIO will take remains to be seen, as it could be anything from a desktop Eee Top rival down to a rugged opponent to Panasonic’s Toughbook line. Since Sony’s only just dabbed a toe in the netbook waters though, we don’t think a touchscreen Sony VAIO W is on the cards just yet.

On the plus side, Abary dropped the Windows 7 launch date (22 October) as the goal for this new touchscreen Sony VAIO, so we’re only 90 days away from copping it in all its glory.
