A new version of Google Maps for mobile has arrived, letting you slap down layers on top of the basic view to show where your friends are, local bus routes and even pre-prepared routes you’ve created. In fact, there’s so many new additions, you might well got lost in them. Read on to see what we mean.
Good news if you’ve got a Nokia S60 smartphone or Windows Mobile blower: Google Maps mobile version 3.2 is ready to download complete with layers. You’ll now be able to summon up any layers you like and whack them down on top, including My Maps layers you’ve created yourself – which as Google points out is ideal for cyclists.
Where merging these layers on Google Maps mobile comes in really handy is acting as a tour guide of your very own. If you’re taking a city break you can prepare your walking tour before hand and merge the layer with Wikipedia, so you’ll get all the info on landmarks as you pass by them.
Neat, no? That’s not the end of it either as search has been improved too, with Google Maps for mobile offering up more red dots, as well as popular categories since you’re more likely to be looking for “coffee” than “stamp shop”. If you’re on another mobile platform, not to worry as Google Maps mobile 3.2 should be landing shortly for you too.
