Music producer Calvin Harris has lashed out at the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), after the organisation removed his own music video from his YouTube account for copyright violation. Want to know what he had to say? Grab some soap to wash your eyes out with, and read on.
When Calvin Harris found his video for Ready For The Weekend had been removed from YouTube after a takedown request by the BPI he mouthed off angrily on Twitter, calling the BPI a “useless shower of c***s” and threatening to crash its offices with a 4×4 and er, a frying pan.
As amusing as it is, this YouTube incident does highlight how ineffective the BPI’s efforts at combating piracy have been in some areas. The BPI recommends a warning system for copyright infringers and, ignoring the fact that it’s actually the artist’s song, Harris wasn’t aware of any warnings sent in advance.
And of course, you can still watch Harris’ other official videos on the same YouTube profile, while the song in question is still ready to be watched on YouTube via plenty of other user uploads.
As Harris himself tweeted: “Fantastic use of time combating piracy by removing my own videos, what a f*****g revelation”. Indeed.
