NokiaApple may be riding high on a wave of record profits and a massive 626 percent increase in iPhone sales but Nokia is unlikely to just sit back and let the fruity phone maker squeeze it out of the market. Here are five ways Nokia can bring the power back.

Apps on the Horizon
There’s no shortage of software add-ons for Symbian, but what it is lacking is a one stop shop to catalogue, list and sell everything like Apple has. Enter Horizon from the Symbian Foundation which will not only make it easy for users to find what they’re looking for but also help Nokia tempt devs to the platform with the promise of more customers from its huge user base.

Comes without DRM
Digital Rights Management that restricts what you can do with music files is slowly going away and word on the digital grapevine is that Nokia is attempting to sweet talk the music makers into ditching DRM for its all-you-can-eat Comes With Music service. If it can pull this off, then it could give the service the boost it needs.

OLED up front, Intel out back
Hardware wise, Apple has been dragging its feet. It’s only just increased the speed of the iPhone and the screen has barely changed since version one. Nokia is pushing forward with next-gen OLED screen tech that’s miles ahead of anything Apple has to offer. Nokia’s buddy up with Intel will also secure it the fastest chips in the market so it’s always speedier than its rivals.

Ovi everywhere
If you thought Apple’s MobileMe was good, then take a look at what Nokia’s been building with Ovi. It’s like MobileMeMeMe. Not only can it store your contacts and emails in the cloud but it’ll sync up your files too. And Nokia’s just dropped the charges so it makes Apple’s offering look like an overpriced also-ran.

Nokia netbook?
While Apple sits around umming and ahhing about whether it can bring significant innovation at the $499 netbook level Nokia might be sneaking into its own back yard. Nokia could be planning to try and carve off a section of the little laptop market all for itself. Take that Apple for trying to muscle in on the phone game.

Whilst I understand the writers view , reality is somewhat different 6 months on. apple iPhone is still a more credible force and with wider network choice even more so . It’s not changed much , but neither has the wheel , or it doesn’t need to as it does what it’s designed to do , and very well . With more apps than milia could ever hope for , mainly due to a great SDK , and with iTunes the major force in side loading / uploading tunes , why would you wait for nokia to catch up . They’ve missed the chance , like so many before them when complacency kicks in , and with the ipad about to storm the UK , apple won’t be challenged for some time
