Spotify has just inked a deal that’ll bring everyone’s favourite gadget fan, Stephen Fry, to the revolutionary streaming service. The deal with IODA (Independent Online Distribution Alliance) will let you nab a selection of Fry’s audio books for free. Sure that’ll fit in just dandy with your death metal playlists.
Spotify’s deal with IODA now means you can grab stacks more tunes from the already bulging streaming site. As well as Stephen Fry’s witterings, you’ll be able to treat your lugholes to The Prodigy, Canada’s finest Broken Social Scene and Bob Marley and The Wailers.
Microsoft Spotify rival out this month
The latest deal puts Spotify well ahead of the game, but with Microsoft planning its very own service that apes Spotify, it seems competition is just around the corner.
With chatter about CD quality offerings and even an iPhone app, Spotify is clearly working hard to ensure it stays top of the pile and well ahead of the Big M.

Interesting move, and always good to see Fry endorsing great new start-ups. However, until Spotify’s mobile apps arrive on the scene, I’m not at all interested in audio books. Because Spotify’s on my computer, I just like to have background music, not something I need to concentrate on, and even though I’m a big fan of Donald Trefusis, it won’t be enough to tempt me just yet.
