There’s a storm heading Microsoft‘s way after it introduced full video ads across its Xbox Live service. Not only are Gold members expected to cough up some hard earned just to use the service, but they now have to put up with products being pushed in their face too while they’re using it. The Electricpig Forum has spoken, click on to hear its (albeit slightly oinky) roar.
Hitting Microsoft right where it hurts, St0rmBr1nger isn’t at all surprised by the move and suggests that the big M is less interested in gamers and more in their money and getting a box into their homes to stream adverts to them.
Our very own Joe Minihane is happy with ads providing they’re not too invasive, given how strong Xbox Live is as a platform.
Countering the argument that it’s no different to ads on Sky TV, which is also a paid for service, AsciiSmoke contends that you don’t pay for the programs individually: “people are put out by the fact that they have to pay for the game, then pay to use the online service and still get adverts.”
Has Microsoft pushed its luck too far or is this just the way the gaming market is going? The debate is still raging in the Forum if you want to chuck in your own two pence (or equivalent currency at current exchange rates) worth.
