HTC Leo?The HTC Hero isn’t even in stores yet, but news of another smartphone from the Taiwanese tech company is here: a curious clamshell called the HTC Leo.  The brand new blower has more in common with a Nintendo DSi than any mobile, thanks to its dual screens. Intrigued? Read on to find out what we know so far.

WMPoweruser had a tip off claiming a new Windows Mobile phone is on the the way, dubbed the HTC Leo, and its specs are a little out of the ordinary. The WVGA main screen is nothing new but the HTC Leo will reportedly rock a clamshell design, with a second, QVGA screen on the outside too.

HTC Hero: hands-on video!

In other words, you could watch video or read email with the HTC Leo shut, and save on the battery life. The tipster also claims the HTC Leo supports Open GL 2.0 graphics, hinting at the speedy Snapdragon processor inside the Toshiba TG01, and potentially even Windows Mobile 7 chassis specs.

A clamshell smartphone would certainly be a surprise from HTC, which hasn’t come out with anything in that shape since the HTC Universal way back when in 2005. There have been rumours over the years of a successor such as the HTC Omni (pictured). Is the HTC Leo it? With Windows Mobile 6.5 on the horizon, we hope we’ll find out soon.
