HTC Hero hands-on!

Ho there, HTC Hero! We know you’re the latest and greatest Android mobile, draped in HTC’s swish new Sense UI, and we know you’re not out until next week, but would you mind stepping out of your packaging for a bit now? That’s a good smartphone. Read on for all the hands-on photos of it right here in our gallery!

If you’ve been left wondering what the hubbub is about, the HTC Hero is the Taiwanes tech corp’s third and finest Android phone, squeezing in 3G, Wi-Fi, a 5MP camera, GPS, a new look Android, and for the first time, Flash support.

Ripping the HTC Hero from its carton, the name feels fitting: it’s a masterfully built blower that corrects almost every gripe we had with the Magic, including the lack of 3.5mm audio. Skipping around the Sense Android on the 3.2-inch touchscreen is silky smooth fun, and they keyboard is clever and responsive.

We’re still not convinced by the HTC Hero’s jutting chin, which makes it look more like Jimmy Hill than a phone, but otherwise, this is one slick smartphone: it’s the best looking Android yet, and we can’t get over the teflon grip on the back. We’re off for more of a play, so graze on our hands-on gallery while you await our full verdict.
