The Palm Pre has just been taught a lesson by Apple bigwigs. The much–hyped mobile no longer syncs directly with iTunes, thanks to the latest update to Cupertino’s music mad software. Read on to find out how relations between Palm and Apple have turned even more sour, courtesy of the Pre.
Apple said it was coming. And now it has. The latest update to iTunes, 8.2.1, breaks the ability of the Palm Pre to sync directly with Apple’s world–beating music platform. That means you can no longer plug in your Pre and transfer tracks and video as you would with your iPhone or iPod.
Palm Pre punters across the pond first noticed the issues yesterday, before Apple released a terse statement, stating that iTunes 8.2.1, “disables devices falsely pretending to be iPods, including the Palm Pre. As we’ve said before, newer versions of Apple’s iTunes software may no longer provide syncing functionality with unsupported digital media players.”
But Palm has since shot back, advising Pre owners to stick with iTunes 8.2 and not bother upgrading. A spokeswoman also said, “If Apple chooses to disable media sync in iTunes, it will be a direct blow to their users.”
Palm and Apple’s relationship turned nasty earlier this year, with Jobs’ men saying the Pre was a direct threat to their intellectual property. It seems this latest spat won’t help any chances of either side wanting to kiss and make up.
