The Amazon Kindle eBook range could be headed to British shelves shortly: a new report says Amazon is close to brokering a deal with mobile operator on this side of the pond to bring the e-reader and over the air downloads from the Kindle Store to the UK!
According to Mobile Today, Amazon is close to penciling in a launch date for the Kindle here in the UK, with a view to getting it out in time for Christmas. Deals with the big book publishers are already in place, but the fineprint with the mobile network supporting the Kindle needs to be hammered out still.
We don’t know yet which Kindle eBooks we’ll be getting here – we’ve been told the Kindle 2 would make it abroad at some point, but there’s been no word on the Kindle DX – but the report goes on to say that the UK Kindle will pack both 3G and Wi-Fi over here, suggesting that we’ll be getting a new and improved version.
About time Amazon. While it’s been dawdling, plenty of other eBooks have set up stall in bookshops nationwide, so there’s some serious catching up to do. You’ll know more when we do.
