SamsungSamsung isn’t content just unleashing a new compact camera and HD camcorder. Rumours are now arriving from South Korea that as well as a new SLR-like range, Sammy’s conjuring up a bizarre compact camera made of two parts. What on earth is it planning?

According to a tipster fresh from a photography exhibition, Samsung is not only readying the NX-10 camera, potentially with an OLED screen, for a November launch, but it’s working on a new compact camera that “could only exist in your imagination”. The Samsung rep on hand couldn’t be much more specific, but did promise it would have “2 parts while normal compact cameras usually have only 1″, and wouldn’t be out of place in a science fiction movie.

Tantalising, eh? We imagine Samsung’s sci-fi camera would have to pack a bit more than a swiveling LCD screen to live up to those promises. Does the whole lens and sensor system twist? Could the battery pack be detachable to reveal a USB key for easy PC connection? Whatever Samsung’s working on, we can’t wait to find out.
