TVs simply don’t come much better looking than the TH-65VX100E. Panasonic’s screen packs in a 60,000:1 contrast and stunning picture quality. It’s blown us away, and not just for the obvious pedigree features.

This is a proper telly for proper AV aficionados. Its 65 inch screen is full HD, of course, but doesn’t include a Freeview tuner or built-in speakers. Panasonic assumes you’ll be bringing your own cinema system and picture source, and you’d better make them high quality.

Fire up the Panasonic TH-65VX100E and you’ll see super-rich blacks and pin-sharp detail. It’s the first TV we’ve seen since the death of Pioneer’s Kuro range to send our jaws to the floor.

Picture purists will also welcome the ability to switch off the screen’s on-board processing, letting you hook up your own video module, although you won’t really need to, as the TV does a stunning job on its own.

Of course, all this comes at a price. A very big price. £8,000 is a fair chunk of anybody’s bank balance, especially considering this screen is precicely that – lacking all the other other gubbins you’ll need to host a proper movie night.

That said, you’re looking at the cream of the crop. This really is one of the best tellies money can buy. Should you drop the requisite cash, with a very loud thud, you won’t be disappointed.
