One of iPhone 3.0‘s hottest features is push notification for apps. But punters who’ve unlocked their iPhones are now finding that Apple is blocking updates, with Czech dev PoweryBase claiming Cupertino is saying no to blowers outside their official networks. What does this mean for unlocked iPhone owners?
PoweryBase, the dev behind the NotifyMe app which only hit the App Store last week, say they’ve been inundated with disgruntled iPhone fans claiming the push–based app doesn’t work. The Czech chaps say this is down to Apple cutting the cord on unlocked and jailbroken iPhones.
So what’s the deal? Well PoweryBase says push–enabled iPhone apps are in constant contact with servers at Apple HQ. When a request from an unlocked iPhone lands, it’s simply ignored.
Word is that the mighty iPhone Dev Team is already locked in a darkened room, busying themselves with a fix. Our advice? If you want to take advantage of every iPhone feature going, you’re probably best to suck it up and stay with O2.
