Tesco might have been beaten to the first supermarket iPhone app by Ocado, but it’s not sitting by idly. It’s just opened up the API to its online shopping service, meaning developers will be able to make their own apps to let you load up your trolley from just about anywhere.
We were impressed by Ocado’s iPhone app which lets you shop even when out of mobile or Wi-Fi signal, but the potential of using the catalogue of the country’s biggest supermarket is vast.
Not only would you be able to make your Tesco shop from any phone platform, but you’d be able to whack Tesco product buy buttons in to websites, and even scan barcodes in store to get information on your mobile, like nutritional value.
It’s still early days, but expect Tesco apps aplenty in the coming months.
