HTC HeroThe HTC Hero is undoubtedly the hottest Android handset we’ve clamped our eyes on. But we’re still gagging to find out when we can nab one and how much we’ll have to turf over for the privilege. Word is though, that’ll it be yours from 21 July. Read on to get bang–up–to–date with the Big G’s latest blower.

Android fans after a slice of the HTC Hero action should pencil in 21 July as the date they can get friendly, open source–style, with the next–gen Google phone. T3 has unearthed plans for the blower to land in just a week, for a stonking £439.

That’s a tenner more than Amazon‘s preorder price for the HTC Hero, which we brought you word of just a couple of weeks back. It’s also a whole week later than their projected 15 July release date. Whatever happens you can expect the HTC Hero to be offered up for nowt on contract. Either way, you’ll be getting a mobile with some serious goods under the hood.

We’re talking a 3.2–inch touchscreen, a 5-megapixel camera, Flash support, 3G, Wi–Fi, GPS and a digital compass. And a rejigged, HTC Sense UI on top of Google’s Android efforts. One thing’s for sure: the HTC Hero makes the old–school T–Mobile G1 look more outdated than combat trousers.

I still don’t understand why HTC felt compelled to put that chin on the Hero. It makes it look like Jimmy Hill from the side!
