No Murdoch Kindle killer incomingWe heard a few months ago that media mogul Rupert Murdoch was looking into an e-reader to take on the Kindle, but those plans have been put on the backburner: instead, Murdoch’s empire will concentrate on getting on to every device possible.

Back in April, the expat Aussie said he was bankrolling an eBook to take on Amazon’s Kindle range, but somewhere along the line he’s had a change of heart. When asked at a conference yesterday if a News Corp e-reader was on the cards, Murdoch ruled it out.

“I don’t think that’s likely,” he said. Instead, he plans to get News Corp publications like the Wall Street Journal, The Times, and maybe even out of favour News Of The World onto any device which will sell subscriptions: “We’ll be absolutely neutral. We’re happy to have our products distributed over any device provided it’s only going to subscribers paying for it.”

It’s probably a good bet, as even Amazon sees the money in future being made from its Kindle Store rather than hardware (Which is why there’s a Kindle app for iPhone), so for the world’s biggest media company, it’d make sense to do the same.
